What can I do with pear overload?
If you have too many pears, you can make pear sauce, pear jelly, pear traybakes or pear preserves. You can also give them away to friends and neighbours. Another option is to freeze them for later use. There are plenty of ways to enjoy pears, even if you have too many! I find jarring the pears really easy to do. Storing pears for winter after picking
If you have a glut of pears, you can easily store them for winter. Besides jarring pears, you can also wash and slice the pears, then layer them in a freezer bag with sugar. Make sure to label the bag with the date so you know how long they will keep. Frozen pears will last for up to 6 months in the freezer. When you’re ready to use them, just thaw them overnight in the fridge.

You will need:
- 3.3 kg Pears (Peeled, cored and cut in half)
- 350 g Sugar
- 3 Lemons (Juiced)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2.5 litres Water

How To Preserve Pears In A Jar With Sugar Recipe
Equipment
Ingredients
- 3.3 kg Pears (Peeled, cored and cut in half)
- 350 g Sugar
- 3 Lemons (Juiced)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2.5 litres Water
Instructions
- Take a large bowl and fill it half way with cold water and add the lemon juice and salt.
- In a stainless steel pot fill with 2.5 litres of water and add the sugar. Meanwhile, peel, cut in half and core the pears and add each one to the large bowl of water and lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
- Bring the pot of water and sugar to the boil. Meanwhile, sterilise the jars and lids.
- When the water starts to boil, add the pears. Let them boil for about 5 to minutes or until partially soft. Using a slotted ladle add the pears to the jars.
- Use a sterilsed jug and scoop the boiled water from the pan and pour into the jars making sure you cover the pears, then seal quickly with the lid.
