Storage and food safety for rice

Uncooked rice can contain Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that causes food poisoning. The spores of this fungus are resilient and survive even when cooked; if left standing at room temperature, the un-cooked grains will grow into bacteria multiplying quickly in your sink or on your plate!

Once cooked, however – be sure to refrigerate as soon as possible after preparing for storage time frames vary depending upon how long it has been sitting around before being heated up again (1 day maximum).

Freezing works well also but only allow 2 – 3 months to use up.
