Recipe for a chocolate protein shake

Are you tired of being tired? Feeling like you just can’t quite get over that last hurdle to better health? You’re not alone. In fact, I was in the same situation not too long ago. Trying to find the energy to work out, eat right, work and be a mum is tough! It seems like there are only so many hours in a day. But I found a secret weapon that has given me the extra edge I need, and today, I want to share it with you. It’s a homemade chocolate protein shake!

What to put in a chocolate protein shake

The ingredients you use makes all the difference so make sure you put the best ingredients in there.

Vegan-friendly chocolate milkshake

  • Good protein powder: I use a collagen powder, it has added Vitamin C. that is flavourless as some protein powders don’t taste that great. You want the flavours to come from fresh ingredients.
  • Frozen Banana: Just a small amount will do as you don’t want it banana flavoured.
  • Peanut butter or Almond butter: Again, just a small amount, so it doesn’t overpower the flavour. This adds extra protein and healthy fats.
  • Oat milk or Almond milk: We love oat milk in our house but choose whatever milk you like best.
  • Ice: Adds a refreshing coolness and loosens the shake
  • Raw Cocoa Powder: This adds rich chocolate flavour to this shake. My all-time favourite is organic raw cocoa powder. I even add it to my americano! Tasty.
  • Psyllium husk: You can also add this to help with constipation and is really good for your digestive system.
frozen banana for protein shake

Frozen bananas

Bananas freeze well and are great for preventing wastage. Simply peel your banana, and slice it into 1cm thick discs. Pop them onto a small tray and freeze. Once frozen, store them in a freezer bag ( I like the ones with a zip). They will store in the freezer for up to 6 months! Try my dairy-free banana smoothie for weight loss.

How to make chocolate protein shakes

Preparation is the key to protein shakes.

Prepare the bananas as mentioned above.

Measure out the rest of the ingredients. You don’t have to go with the quantities I have suggested, but this gives you an idea. Adjust according to taste.

Blend all the ingredients together. I use a smoothie blender with a bottle already attached, and it comes with a lid so I can take it away with me.

Chocolate protein shake for losing weight

Protein is important for weight loss! It can help increase your metabolism and reduce appetite while promoting fat burning instead of muscle growth. That said, shakes typically contain quite a few calories, so if the drink works with what you’re trying to achieve, then it would be an excellent choice as one of your tools to achieve your goal.
