Oat banana pancakes for babies and toddlers

These banana and oat pancakes are a delicious and healthy breakfast option for babies and toddlers from 6 months old. They are high in fibre and nutrients, and they’re a great way to start the day. They can be made in batches and then frozen, so you’ve got pancakes at the ready when you’ve no time on your hands. These pancakes are sure to become a family favourite.

The great thing about pancakes is they can be made without an egg! Just mix 1 tablespoon of flaxseed or chia seeds with about 3 tablespoons of water and let it rest for 10 minutes. Then add this to the batter, and you’re good to go!

Banana oat pancakes, no blender?

No blender or no food processor? Not a problem. Replace the rolled oats with oat flour, use a jug or bowl, and use a fork or hand whisk to mix everything together.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ Cups Rolled Oats
  • 2 Bananas
  • ½ tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ½ Cup Oat Milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg

Optional Toppings

  • ½ Cup Blueberries
  • ¼ Cup Dark Chocolate Chips

How to make dairy-free banana and oat pancakes

  • Add the rolled oats and salt in the blender and whiz for a few seconds until it looks like flour.
  • Add the bananas, milk and vanilla extract and blitz again until it becomes a smooth batter. Finally add the egg and blitz just for 2 seconds until combined.
  • Add a little coconut oil to the pan on medium heat and pour the batter to form two small pancakes. Wait until the pancakes start to form bubbles then flip over with a spatula and cook for a minute.

Toppings

  • When you pour the batter onto the frying pan, add your chosen toppings at this stage before flipping over.

Plan ahead

Make these pancakes in advance when you have no time to make them in the morning. Double or triple the ingredients from the recipe below and make them as normal. Leave them to cool on a wire rack. When completely cool, stack them with baking paper in between them and place them in a freezer back. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Defrost them by heating them in a microwave, popping them in a toaster or for a few minutes in the oven.
