How to thicken savoury mince

There are a few different ways that you can thicken savoury mince. One way is to add some flour to the mince while it is cooking (this is what I did). Add the flour and fry for 1 minute before adding the rest of the ingredients.

Another way is to add some breadcrumbs to the mince. Finally, you could add some mashed potato to the mince. All of these methods will help to thicken the mince and make it more delicious.

Slow cooker savoury mince and vegetables

One of my favourite winter go-to recipes is savoury mince. It’s hearty and filling and can be easily made in the slow cooker. Simply follow instructions 1 and 2 and then add the flour and fry for 1 minute. Then it’s just a matter of throwing everything into the slow cooker and letting it cook for 5 hours. The result is a deliciously savoury mince that can be served with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables or even on its own. And best of all, it’s an easy and energy-efficient way of cooking that will leave your kitchen smelling amazing. So why not give it a try next time you’re looking for a quick and tasty winter meal?

What to serve with savoury minced beef

Savoury mince is delicious and served with a variety of different dishes. I served it with roast potatoes, and it tasted so good.

One popular option is to serve it with pasta or rice. Jacket potatoes and mashed potatoes are another favourite.

Another option is to serve it with a salad or some steamed vegetables. It is also delicious served on its own as a main meal. No matter how you choose to enjoy it, savoury mince is sure to be a hit with everyone.

Variations

Use lamb instead of beef.

Make it vegetarian using Quorn mince.

Add chillis to spice it up!

Use as a filling for pies.

  • Add the oil to a deep-sided frying pan and fry the onions and garlic until soft on low to medium heat.
  • Add the mixed herbs and beef mince and turn up the heat. Fry the mince using a wooden spoon to break up any big lumps and until it turns brown.
  • Add the flour and stir for 1 minute. Add the tomato puree, stock and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 15 minutes with a stir in between. Add the frozen veg and cook for another 10 minutes. If you using fresh vegetables, cook until the vegetables are soft. Season with salt and pepper.

Storage

This easy recipe will keep for up to 4 days in the fridge. Make sure you keep it well-covered. This savoury mince freezes really well for up to 3 months. Leave the mince to cool before freezing and store in a freezer-proof container. I use my favourite foil containers with lids.
