Soda bread is a type of quick bread that doesn’t require yeast. It’s perfect for when you want something quick and easy, and it’s a great way to use up any leftover bits of flour and dairy-free milk. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make gluten and dairy-free soda bread using simple ingredients. Let’s get started!

GLUTEN AND DAIRY-FREE SODA BREAD RECIPE

Some people are intolerant to gluten and dairy, and it can be hard to find recipes, let alone buy them from a supermarket! So here’s my recipe for gluten and dairy-free soda bread recipe tried and tested and was surprised how it turned out.

Depending on your taste of bicarbonate of soda, the max you need is 2 tsp which I have stated in the recipe or go with just 1 tsp if you don’t like the taste.

  • Pre-heat the oven to 190°c fan and grease line a baking tray or loaf tin.
  • Mix milk and lemon juice in a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, add flour, salt, xantham gum, sugar and bicarbonate of soda and mix well. Pour in the milk mixture and add the egg.
  • Mix together into a soft sticky dough. Shape into a ball and score with a knife or place in a loaf tin. Sprinkle with extra flour.
  • Bake in over for 30 minutes until golden.

Notes

Some top tips when making your bread:
1. Reduce the amount of Bicarbonate of Soda if you find the taste too bitter.
2. When mixing all the ingredients together, you will find it quite a wet mixture, but this is how it should be.
3. Don’t over-mix the dough, just enough so the ingredients are mixed through.
