Easy Fork Biscuits

While fork biscuits might not be as popular as their drop biscuit cousins, they are just as delicious. For those not in the know, fork biscuits are made by fork-pressing a dough onto a baking sheet. This results in a biscuit that is flakier and lighter than a drop biscuit. And, because there is no need to worry about shaping perfect rounds, fork biscuits are also much easier to make. Not to mention, the fork marks give them a rustic charm that is hard to resist. So the next time you are in the mood for some homemade biscuits, don’t be afraid to switch things up and give fork biscuits a try.

How to make fork biscuits with chocolate on top

  • STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 180°c/160°c Fan/350°F/Gas 4. Lightly grease the baking trays.
  • STEP 2: Add the margarine and sugar to a bowl and beat together, then mix in the flour and cocoa. Bring the mixture together with your hands to form a dough. Form the dough into balls about the size of a walnut and place them well apart on the baking trays. I used a cookie scoop to do this. Dip a fork in water and use this to flatten the biscuits.
  • STEP 3: Bake for 20 minutes. Lift off the baking trays and leave to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • STEP 4: Place some baking paper underneath the wire rack. Melt the chocolate in a microwave for about 40 seconds in a bowl. Dip each biscuit in the bowl, using a spoon if necessary to coat the top. Leave on the wire rack to set.
