Scones in the air fryer

If you’re a fan of scones, you’ll definitely want to try making them in the air fryer! Not only is it a quicker cooking method than the oven-baked scone, but it also results in perfectly golden and crispy. Plus, you’ll still get that classic flaky texture on the inside. The air fryer allows for even heating, so every bite will be just as delicious as the last.

And the best part? You can customize the recipe with your favourite flavours and toppings. From dried fruit to chocolate chips to juicy cherries, the possibilities are endless. Give it a try and enjoy warm and delicious scones in a flash! Croissants also cook well in the air fryer!

How to make plain scones in the air fryer

  • Lightly grease a brownie tin that will fit in your air fryer.
  • Put the flour and baking powder in a bowl and add the butter. Rub in with fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.
  • Break the egg into a measuring jug, then make up to 150ml (5 fl oz) with milk. Gradually add to the flour (you may not need it all), and mix to a soft dough.
  • Turn out onto a floured surface and roll out to a thickness of ½ inch (1 cm). Cut into rounds with a fluted cutter and place in the tin.
  • Turn the air fryer to 200℃ and bake for 6 minutes. You could possibly bake these in 5 minutes, but I wanted a golden finish. If you’ve made larger ones they will need need a few minutes extra.

Storage for scones

Let’s face it: Scones don’t stay fresh for very long. Proper storage is key. You want to ensure that your scones stay moist and fluffy, not dry and crumbly.

My favourite way to store them is in an airtight container on the kitchen counter. This way, they get to breathe a little but are still protected from the elements. If you’re planning on keeping them for more than a day, consider stashing them in the fridge. And if you want to take things to the next level, try freezing them. Just make sure to wrap them up tightly before chucking them in the freezer. Happy scone-ing!

  1. Hi! Just to say, the error regarding ‘rubber’, typed mistakenly where you meant ‘butter’, is still there, in the method. It was only corrected further down the page. I made these… storage was not a problem, as we ate them all while still warm!

Great recipe thank you. Mine were a bit dry but didn’t use all the egg/milk would that help next time? Still delicious though 😋

    1. Thank you for your lovely feedback. Yes add it all, as you can always add a bit more flour if it’s too wet to handle.

      1. Use whatever you have already such as a built in rack, I just used a small brownie as this fits in my air fryer and easy to lift out all at once. Happy baking 😉

    1. Hi Brian, thank you for bringing this to my attention. It was a typing error (now fixed). It was supposed to say butter not rubber lol. 😉
