Ingredients

  • 225 g Self-Raising Flour
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Mustard Powder
  • ¼ tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 25 g Butter (or margarine)
  • 150 g Mature Cheddar (grated)
  • 1 Egg
  • 140 ml Milk

Instructions For Cheese Scone In The Air Fryer

Lightly grease and base line a round sandwich tin with baking paper. This is optional but is easier to remove from the air fryer.

Measure the flour, salt, mustard powder, cayenne and baking powder into a bowl. Add the butter and rub it in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in 100g of the grated cheese.

Break the egg into a measuring jug and make up to 150ml with milk. Stir the egg and milk in the fry ingredients and mix to a soft but not sticky dough.

Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Roll out to a 15 – 17 cm circle. Transfer to a round baking tin.

Brush with a little milk and sprinkle the remaining grated cheese.

Bake in the air fryer for about 20 minutes at 200c or until golden brown and firm to the touch. Slide onto a wire rack to cool.

How To Store Air Fryer Scones

To keep your air fryer cheese scones fresh, allow them to cool completely before storing. You can store them in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Can I Freeze Cheese Scones

For longer storage, freeze the scones by wrapping each one individually in cling film or foil, then placing them in a freezer-safe bag or container. When you’re ready to enjoy them, simply thaw at room temperature and warm them up in the air fryer or oven for a few minutes to restore their crispy exterior and melty cheese inside. This way, you can enjoy your delicious cheese scones anytime!

Notes

NOTE: Don’t be tempted to add more cheese on top of the scone as this will make it soggy in the middle and will need more time in the air fryer to cook.
