Who Invented Welsh Cakes?
Welsh cakes originate from Wales in the United Kingdom. The origins of Welsh cakes are unknown, but they are thought to have been invented in the early 1800s. Some people believe that Welsh cakes were originally created by the Welsh miners who worked in the coal mines in South Wales.
These miners would bring their lunch with them, which consisted of a simple cake made from flour, butter, sugar, and eggs. Other people believe that Welsh cakes were created by the wives of the miners, who would make them as a treat for their husbands. Whatever the true origins of Welsh cakes may be, they are now a popular treat in Wales and beyond.

The cakes are also known as griddle cakes or bakestones within Wales because they are traditionally cooked on a bakestone.
How Many Calories Are There In A Welsh Cake?
Welsh cakes can come in all different sizes. This recipe the size is about 7cm wide and 0.5cm thick and the average calories per cake are 102 calories which make them a perfect snack with your afternoon tea break!
How are welsh cakes served?
There are many ways to enjoy Welsh cakes, I like them just as they are sprinkled with caster sugar and served warm but they can be served with butter and/or jam. Some people also like to sprinkle them with sugar or cinnamon before eating. Welsh cakes can be enjoyed at any time of day, but they are especially popular as a snack or dessert.
How to cook Welsh cakes?
Welsh cakes are typically cooked on a griddle or frying pan. The batter is made from flour, butter, sugar, eggs, and milk, and it is then fried in batches until it is golden brown on both sides.
There is no need to add oil or butter to the frying pan if it is non-stick plus when you cook them you do so on very low heat. I heat mine at a number 2 setting on an electric hob.
Welsh cakes are best served warm, but they can also be enjoyed at room temperature.
Try my Low Carb Pancakes, these are also a slow cook recipe but taste delicious.
