Pattie Filling Ingredients

  • 500 g Minced Beef
  • 1 Onion
  • 3 Spring Onions
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic
  • ½ tsp Hot Chilli (Scotch Bonnet if you like it hot hot!)
  • ½ tsp Ginger
  • 2 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 2 tbsp Boullion Powder
  • 2 tbsp Garlic Granules
  • 2 tbsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce (or Tamari Sauce)
  • 1 tbsp Browning Sauce

Ingredients for Jamaican Pattie

  • 450 g Plain Flour
  • 227 g Butter – Cold and cubed
  • 1 tbsp Tumeric
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Curry Powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 300 ml Milk (or water)
  • 1 Egg (Beaten for egg wash

Recipe for Jamaican minced beef patties

  • Add oil to a pan and heat on high heat. Fry the garlic, onions, spring onions, ginger, thyme and chilli for 2 to 3 mins.
  • Add the minced beef along with the rest of the ingredients. Mix thoroughly and fry for about 3 minutes. Cover with a lid and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes whilst you make the dough. Pre-heat the oven at 180°c/350°f/Gas 4
  • Add the flour to your mixer along with the Tumeric, salt, baking powder, and curry powder. Mix through. Add the chopped butter and mix until it resembles breadcrumbs. Gradually add the milk until it forms a dough.
  • Transfer onto a floured surface and roll out to about ½ cm thick. Cut out into rounds using a plate. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of beef mixture to the centre of the pastry. Using a pastry brush, dip in the egg wash and brush around the edges. Fold and seal with fingers and then get a fork and crimp the edges. Transfer to a baking tray and bake for 25 minutes.
