Easy Fruit Mincemeat For Mince Pies

This easy homemade fruit mincemeat combines raisins, currants, sultanas, dried cranberries and cooking apples with warming spices, lemon zest and brandy. Rich, fruity and full of festive flavour, it is perfect for traditional Christmas mince pies, seasonal bakes or homemade gifts.

5 g raisins 75 g currants 75 g sultanas 75 g dried cranberries 50 g mixed peel 150 g cooking apples (peeled, cored and finely chopped) 75 g butter 125 g light brown soft sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon mixed spice Zest of 1 lemon 150 ml brandy

Add the raisins, currants, sultanas, dried cranberries and mixed peel to a large saucepan.
Add the chopped cooking apples, butter, light brown soft sugar, cinnamon, mixed spice and lemon zest.
Place the saucepan over a low heat and cook gently, stirring regularly, until the butter has melted.
Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and leave the mixture to cool to room temperature.
Pour in the brandy and stir until evenly combined.
Spoon the mincemeat into clean, sterilised jars and seal with well-fitting lids.
Label the jars with the preparation date and store safely.
