Easy Homemade Copy Cat Mandarin Orange Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Chicken Thighs (or 2 Chicken Breasts)
  • ½ Cup Flour
  • 1 Egg White
  • ¼ Cup Cornstarch
  • ¼ Cup Water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika

SAUCE

  • ½ Cup Soy Sauce
  • 1 Cup Orange Juice (or mandarin juice)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
  • ¼ Cup Brown Sugar
  • Orange Zest
  • 2-3 tbsp Cornstarch (mixed with ¼ cup of water)

FRYING

  • 1 Cup Vegetable Oil

Instructions
 

BATTER

  • In a mixing bowl, add flour, cornstarch, egg white, water, and seasonings.
  • Mix until a thick batter forms. If the batter needs thinning out, add additional water 1 tbsp at a time.
  • Toss in your diced chicken and evenly coat. Let this sit while we make the sauce.

SAUCE

  • In a pan, add soy sauce, sesame oil, orange juice, orange zest, brown sugar, and slurry.
  • Simmer this on low until the sauce is nice and thick.

FRY THE CHICKEN

  • Add your oil into a non-stick pan, heat on high and fry your chicken for 5 - 10 minutes depending on the size of your pieces.
  • Remove your cooked chicken from the pan. Remove the oil and return the chicken to the chicken to the pan to crisp up then add your orange sauce. Heat through.
  • Serve over white rice and top with green onion.
